Technology evolves and, hand in hand, even the educational methodologies are adapting to change. In this process of evolution, even the furniture “adapts to change”: countless teaching methods need dynamic environments, spaces capable of modify your setting according to the different educational moments.
The new training approach, enriched by digital technologies, requires the creation of conditions to completely review the distribution of dedicated physical spaces for teaching, making the space an “ideal operating environment of learning” linked to a different and flexible distribution of workstations.
The revolution of spaces, however, does not concern only the “class” space, but all the spaces of a building, creating a real Open Learning Environment, where understairs, corridors, indoor spaces are involved in the transformation from a simple building into a social entity.
Furnishing, mobile and modular solutions, thought and made to alternate the classic frontal teaching to the «inverted lesson», the work of group and in pairs research, the debate in the laboratory teaching, all in a single environment, where the student becomes the central subject of learning.
The didactic spaces that identify themselves with the new classes need to be rethought and designed to encourage and facilitate the sharing of knowledge, research, reflection and collaboration.
Dynamic spaces, even without a teacher desk, in which the classic frontal lesson becomes just a moment or a short part of the didactic action, while ample space is left to collaborative communication process: group activities, research, brainstorming, reworking and presentation where students become active subjects of their own training and the teacher assumes the role of moderator and learning facilitator.
The Space, understood as a “physical and material container where teaching takes place” is an element not to be overlooked: it is important to choose the setting of workstations according to the type of teaching you want to implement.
